Report on the Course Experience Questionnaire at UNSW (March 2006)

Institutional Analysis and Reporting has released its Report on the Course Experience Questionnaire at UNSW for 2005, which looks at the extent to which UNSW graduates are satisfied with their experience in the programs they have completed. The report is based on the results of an annual survey of graduates that is carried out at all Australian universities. This survey provides an opportunity to track whether there have been improvements in student satisfaction over time and to compare the satisfaction of UNSW graduates with that of graduates of similar courses at other universities. The results are used extensively at UNSW in reports on the University's performance, and in the University's quality improvement initiatives.  This year the report has been issued in two parts.   The main report contains time series data and a detailed analysis of the results by Faculty and program of study.   The supplement to the report provides a comparison of UNSW results with those at other Australian universities.

Interactive CEQ and GDS student data (February 2006)

The Institutional Analysis and Reporting Office has created an interactive CEQ and GDS student data application. The application allows users to interactively access CEQ & GDS data gathered from graduating students after they graduate. The data is gathered annually using a nationally prescribed proforma and is administered to both mid and end of year completing students of the previous year.

Background to DEST funding clusters / Load data by cluster (March 2005)

The Institutional Analysis and Reporting Office has added new material to its website to supply background information on the changes to the DEST funding arrangements applying to Commonwealth supported students from 2005.

In 2003, DEST introduced a wide range of reforms to the higher education sector. Part of theses reforms included a change in the way that DEST allocates funding to universities for the teaching of Commonwealth supported students. A total of twelve funding clusters that relate to the teaching content of courses were introduced by DEST to better reflect the actual costs of delivering courses. Funding to universities will be based on the funding cluster to which courses are classified.

The new area of this website provides background information on the new funding clusters. Tables showing the Commonwealth supported student (or DEST funded) load have also been provided to show the load taught by school and funding cluster.

This new area of the website can be accessed by clicking on the yellow button above marked Budget Data, and following the menu items that will then appear on the left of the page.

Planned versus actual load by program (March 2005)

The Institutional Analysis and Reporting Office produces the UNSW Enrolment Plan every year. The Enrolment Plan provides details of projections of student load (in EFTSU) by program and teaching Faculty. In order to better inform the University of the progress of actual enrolment patterns against the planned enrolment numbers, a set of tables showing the planned versus actual load for each program and Faculty have been added to this website.

This new area of the website can be accessed by clicking on the yellow button above marked UNSW Plans, and following the menu items that will then appear on the left of the page.

Online help with definitions of the statistics (March 2004)

Much of the statistical data provided on this web site is extracted from the data prepared for the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST). Online access is now available to the help files provided by DEST to guide the preparation of the student, staff and equity data collections. The help files contain a glossary and definitions for all data collections, as well as data element dictionaries, data file formats and data validation specifications. This will assist users who wish to clarify their understanding of the data definitions and descriptors. Access to the online help has been added to the statistics and links sections of the web site.
